THE SUBTLE COLLECTION

released MARCH 19, 2018
RELEASE 39

At the time, I thought it would be a good idea to release an album-length outtakes collection. I don't remember why. Maybe it's because I had a lot of stuff just sitting around. The Lovesick Cure EP had only come out a month prior, and that wasn't a very necessary release either, but it was also March 2018 and I didn't really have a firm grasp on this thing called "restraint". "Under The Flickering Light (Demo)" dates back to the first day I started recording Stereo Butterfly, when I left a concert after the first band played because I thought I could do better. I ended up re-recording this because I knew it had more than a verse and chorus in it. I like it in this form, but it's not really a song. "Tea Set" was a bonus track from a run of homemade CDr's I did of My Heaven back in 2017. Every CDr had a different bonus track after "Ahead". I'm not actually sure if I ended up releasing all of them, but I know most of them are on something or other. "Insider Eugenics" and "A Lesson In Riding" were among these as well. "My Ears Hurt (Demo)" was recorded for a side project that never took off called Ski Trip 69, I think. Maybe it was Ski Lift 69. It doesn't matter. "Forever Unsure" was also from a side project that never took off, this one called Infinity Mirror. "Keep Me Occupied" is a song by an Australian band called The Stevens from their album Good. I was obsessed with that album in early 2018, and this was my favorite song on it, so I tried to take a stab at covering it. Unlike the Lush cover on here, I think this one actually came out okay. As far as I know, The Stevens haven't done anything since Good came out.
