I made 15 albums in 2018. When it became 2019, I knew full well that I didn't want to do that ever again. This was the first thing I made in 2019, just to see what would emerge while I considered my next steps. I'd been listening to bands like Cleaners From Venus, Lives Of Angels, and Modern Art, so guitars and drum machines seemed like a good idea. I think I stumbled upon Solid Space a bit later, I don't remember. Whatever the case, I knew the next album would not be a big rock thing.
This isn't that, because it was never meant to be that. It was more of a test run, and to that end I think it could have been worse. I don't really have deep insight on these or any of the other songs. It's not a very songwriting-focused EP. "Flower Bed" was written to be the hit, but I think "Comfort Over Condition" actually holds that distinction. "Magma" is good too, but it feels more like a precursor to some better songs I wrote in this vein. The other two songs I wrote don't really do much. The covers and instrumental were more about making horrible noise with an acoustic guitar, which is an eternally noble goal and everyone should do that at least once. If there's anything all that great about this, it's the cover. That's one of my favorite HW covers.
