Some table scraps sitting around gathering dust. "Nitrous Circus" is the same song with a completely different coat of paint. This version, recorded for Momentum, is good, but when I finished that album there were too many songs, so something had to go. This felt too derivative of Wire, so I axed it with the intention of coming back to it later. "The Hall of Very Good" was recorded for Sex With God, with my friend Freya on drums. When I finished the song, I concluded it was a little undercooked, so I scrapped it and used Freya's drums as the foundation for "The Bubble". "Visor" was a 30th birthday gift for my friend Ethan, who wrote that song and many others that rule. You may know him from his band Ex Pilots, or our band Bushworms. I had to do some varispeed fuckery to make the vocals work, because wow I can't really hit those notes. "Why We Stopped Fighting", another Sex With God outtake, was built around a recording of a dripping faucet from my old Fishtown apartment that kept me up very late one night. "Chemical Confidence" is an odd one here. When I first wrote it for Momentum, I thought it was so good that it was ready to be played live. I remembered recording the vocals thinking I'd really hit on something. The next morning I listened back to it and determined the lyrics were so on the nose that I couldn't release it. Like "Nitrous Circus", I threw it away and decided I would go back to the drawing board with it when the time was right. The two songs became the bookends of Sex With God once I'd figured out what to really do with them.
