HARVEST
released JUNE 3, 2017
ALBUM 6, RELEASE 17
After a few actually decent HW albums, I had to make another stinker. I originally envisioned this as a double album. The only 4 songs that survived that idea were "Wistful Thinking" and the Writer's Block EP. The other songs I recorded were deleted. I will never remember what they were. The resulting album feels kind of unfinished. Most of the songs only have 1 vocal track, which doesn't specifically mean I did a bad job, but often it meant I wasn't invested enough in the lyrics to commit to doubling it. "Strawberry Melatonin" would have benefitted from a 2nd vocal. I wince a little at the lyrics but musically I think it's actually not too bad. "Jean, Nevada" works okay. I messed up and started the second verse in the wrong part of the progression, which is actually neat and probably the most interesting part of the song. I always liked "20 Wolves On The Plot". It only has one vocal track because, on my 8-track portastudio, all of the other tracks were full. I re-recorded this on Gives Up And Plays The Hits for a reason. "Themes Involving Birth" has a good song inside it somewhere. The arrangement and production don't do it many favors. I thought "St. Lucia" was a grand epic thing. I also thought it was pronounced "loo-sha" and not "loo-chee-ah" or even "loo-see-ah". The bass is really loud because I thought the bass was mixed too quiet in a lot of other people's songs (true) and I wanted to do right by the instrument. I think I overcompensated.
