I was about to turn 18, and I wanted to write something truly great as "the last song written during my childhood". Given that the song I wrote turned out to be "Ace of Eyes", I think that worked out well. I'm still quite happy with this sprawling thing I conjured. Even the recording itself holds up, somehow. I haven't listened to Afternoon as part of this series yet, and won't for quiiiiiite some time, but perhaps there's a case to be made for "Ace of Eyes" being the first great Hello Whirled song. I don't think I'm allowed to decide that though. I do remember someone liking it when it came out, and specifically telling me I should have done the chorus more than once. When I re-recorded it in 2018, I didn't listen to him. When I played it live in 2021, I didn't listen to him. I think it's funny that the big chorus only happens once. The other 3 songs are just b-sides. Don't worry about those.
